Joseph B. Polakowski, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 5, 2014. Born in Bayonne NJ, he resided in Bridgewater before relocating to Somerville in 1972. Joe served his country as a member of the US Army, 137th Evacuation Hospital, during WWII European Conflict from 1943-1946. During the 1950's Joe was an active member of the Bradley Gardens First Aid Squad. Joe retired after 38 years of service from American Cyanamid in Bridgewater as a Rigger within the Maintenance Department. He enjoyed watching all sports was an avid fan of the Oakland Athletic Baseball Team and he was active with the Somerville Pioneer Club and Somerville Pop Warner Booster Clubs. In his spare time he enjoyed attending parades, going to AC and for long rides. Joe loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Polakowski was predeceased by his beloved parents Stanislaw and Felecia (Konieczko) Polakowski, his loving wife of 55 years Regina (Kosycarz) Polakowski (2004); 8 dear sisters Stella Polakowski, Victoria and husband George Glenfield, Anna and husband Walter Adamkowski, Genevieve and husband Peter Reilly, Josephine and husband Joseph Rayczek, Harriet and husband Milton Kisielewski, Irene and husband Stephen Mages, Mary and husband Anthony Matulewich. Surviving are his 2 cherished sons, Joseph S. Polakowski of Hillsborough, and Theodore and his wife Lori Polakowski of Mesa, AZ., 4 loving grandchildren Kimberly and husband Russell Engelman of Okinawa Japan, Matthew, Krysta and Michael all of Mesa, AZ and one great-grandchild Zachary Engleman. A viewing will be held Sunday, August 10, 2014, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm, at Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 US Highway 202 South, Branchburg, NJ 08876 (908) 526-7638. Prayers will start at 8:30 am on Monday, at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, August 11, 2014 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 35 Mountain Avenue, Somerville, NJ 08876. Interment will take place following the mass at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Raritan, NJ 08869.
