Clara Sylvia Allen

Clara Sylvia Johnson Allen, 93, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026, in Ewing Township. She was born on May 25, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up surrounded by family, faith, and a passion for teaching. Sylvia attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis and graduated from Trenton State College. She taught in several nursery schools and then worked for many years in the Ewing Public School System as a special education teacher. She was  known for her endless patience, her ability to see the potential in every student, and her lifelong commitment to serving children with special needs. She was a member of the Ewing Covenant Presbyterian Church and an associate member of Abiding Presence Lutheran Church, and active for many years in charitable and religious activities.

Sylvia is mourned by her sons Keith Edwin and Glenn Allison, her daughter Margaret Lynn Allen Chanda (Jerry), her granddaughter Kristianna Beth Chanda, her sisters Edna Littlewood and Nancy Allen, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne and her parents Alf Edwin and Magda Sophie Johnson.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 17, at 11:00 A.M, at Ewing Covenant Presbyterian Church, at 100 Scotch Road, Ewing. Sylvia’s family wishes to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Ewing Township EMT Services for the many times they responded to our calls for assistance.
