Elsbeth Charlotte Rogaczewski, née Gauer

“God is my Oath.”

June 25, 1934 –  January 02, 2024

Born to Artur and Charlotte Gauer, née Krause on June 25th, 1934 in Gumbinnen, East Prussia, Germany and was one of three siblings that included her elder brother Artur Gauer, Jr., and younger sister Lieslotte Hoffmann, née Gauer.

Elsbeth is survived by her children: Susanne M. Christie, née Rogaczewski and her son, George and wife Elaine Rogaczewski and her grandchildren, Alexander J. Christie, Stephanie, Victoria and Lucas Rogaczewski. Several nieces and nephews: Birgitt Culver, Joanne Rusak, Monika and Dale Green, Andreas and Debbie Hoffmann, Arthur, Bernd, Christopher and Julia Gauer and her sister-in-laws: Elvira Gauer, née Aulich and Marianne Vollmar née Rogaczewski and son, Peter Vollmar and by her youngest cousin, Manfred (Fred) Gauer.

Elsbeth was truly a beautiful and gracious individual. A much loved woman, friend and cherished mother and an adored Omi who led her life with a humble dignity. She loved a good laugh, appreciated cynical humor, was well read, loved non-fiction, and was an ardent nature lover and gardener and her green thumb could make anything grow. As a travel buff she made many excursions with her sister Lottie. Elsbeth loved attending to her grandchildren and often played UNO and of course, let them win! Her passion was classical music and she was an ardent fan of Pavarotti and the Three Tenors.  Elsbeth had many creative talents, like artistic needle crafts and knitting for preemie babies, even Irish Knit sweaters, and by profession was a Master Tailor and had a true entrepreneurial spirit. Anything she set her mind to she accomplished. She befriended many and had an empathetic heart, an open ear and helping hand. She’d never let a friend or neighbor go hungry and would whip-up a dinner party or bake-up a storm for family or friends in a jiffy. Her best friend, Anne Moberg was an instigator and Elsbeth went along for the adventurous joy-ride much reminiscent of Thelma & Louise. Her last wishes were that her children and extended family hold together while finding moments of happiness and contentment in life.
