Heinz August Arzt, age 88, passed away on May 24, 2024, suddenly at his home in Hopewell, NJ, with his wife beside him. He is predeceased by his older brother, Georg Arzt, his father, August Arzt, and his mother, Elisabeth Braun Arzt. He was born in Biedenkopf, Germany, where he met and married his wife, Rosemarie Bieler, and had two children, Hans-Jorg Arzt and Michaela Arzt. The family arrived in the United States on February 9, 1963. Heinz was a lifelong Lutheran and had deep roots in St. Mark Lutheran Church in Hamilton, NJ. Before moving to the U.S., Heinz apprenticed as a master butcher and chef in the old country and brought with him his recipes, skills, and talents. In 1969, he and his family opened a butcher shop, Heinz’s Meat Market, in Hamilton Square, NJ. Heinz was an integral part of the Hamilton community, and the business atmosphere was like that of a family. Everyone knew each other and came to Heinz for his advice on cuts of meat and cooking. Heinz’s wife, Rosi, son, Hans, and daughter, Michaela, worked with him side-by-side in building the business. The Arzt family is the epitome of the American dream. They came here with no English speaking or writing knowledge and very little money and yet succeeded. Heinz’s family was everything to him, and they were a great source of happiness in his life. Poppop was quick with a joke and always put a smile on your face. His legacy lives on in our hearts. Heinz leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Rosi, his son, Hans and his spouse Cheryl, his daughter, Michaela and her spouse JoAnne, grandchildren, Jordan Gamache (Ray Gamache) of Yardley, PA, Brian Arzt (Stacey Arzt) of Pemberton, NJ, Matthew Arzt (Sabrina Arzt) of Jacobstown, NJ, Morgan Gordon (Christopher Gordon) of Los Angeles, CA, and Christopher Arzt (Rebecca Arzt) of Edgewater, NJ. His great grandchildren, Jolie, Tricia, Grace, Anneliese, Kady, Henry, Charlotte, Adelaide, Hannah, and the soon to be born, Mila Capri Gordon. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 1 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 350 Whitehorse Avenue, Hamilton, NJ 08610.
