Johannah “Joanne” Maria (Kren) Harrison, a Holocaust survivor, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, at the age of 96, surrounded by family.
Joanne was born on November 12, 1929, to Trude and Frank Kren in Vienna, Austria. At just 9 years old, she and her brother, George, fled the Nazis on the Kindertransport to England and were later reunited with their parents in New York in July 1940.
Joanne earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Adelphi College and devoted many years caring for others as a nurse. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, living her life with a deep faith and steadfast love for those around her. She and her beloved husband, Al, shared nearly 71 years of marriage.
Joanne found joy in life’s simple comforts: daily walks along the canal, long hot baths, piping-hot tea with honey, and weekly flowers from her husband. She never let a birthday or anniversary pass without a call or card.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Trude and Frank Kren, and her brother, George Kren. She is survived by her husband, Al Harrison, her children and their spouses, Todd and Donna, Drew and Becky, Scott and Vandy, Sue and Tim, and Paul and Renee; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the end of February at Pennington Assembly of God. More details will be shared as arrangements are finalized. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
Joanne’s faith, resilience, and love touched all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
