Robert D Butler

March 18, 1945 — June 8, 2023

Chesterfield, NJ

Robert Butler 78 of Chesterfield NJ graced Heaven with his presence on 6/8/2023.  Born on 3/18/1945 Bob leaves behind his loving wife of 26 years Debbie, his loving sons Christopher (wife Lisa) and Alexander (wife Christine) and their mother Andrea (married 1968-1981), brother Bruce and sister Janice Rivera.  Bob also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren, Alex and Christines children Amanda, Emily, and Alexa, and Chris and Lisas children Matthew and Luke.  Bob was predeceased by his parents Herb and Erma Butler.

Bob served in the Army National Guard during a tumultuous time period in the late 60's from which he was Honorably Discharged.  He studied Landscape Architecture at Rutgers University and then earned the degree of Master of Landscape Architecture from Syracuse University. For a time, Bob was a professor at Rutgers and Syracuse University.  He then worked as head of facilities for NYU and Fairleigh Dickenson.  He was also facilities manager for RAM Mobile Data and then SERV Centers of NJ prior to retiring in 2007.  He enjoyed building things and constantly tinkering.  He always had a well-stocked woodworking shop and enjoyed his hobbies greatly.  Bob also enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing with his grandchildren, hiking, canoeing, and generally traveling the road less traveled.  Bob had a way with words and always enjoyed making others feel special.  He really mattered to a lot of people and will be sorely missed by those whose life he touched.  Honoring Bobs wishes he has been cremated and there will be no services at this time.  At his request an informal celebration of his life will take place at a future date.
