William J Monks

William John Monks

William John Monks, of Brooklyn, New York, born on April 6, 1926 in
Malden, Massachusetts, to the late Catherine and the late Richard
Monks, passed away at age 93 on June 7, 2019, in Hamilton, New
Jersey.
He graduated from St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY. William
served in the Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946 in World War II, and was
a Veteran of the Battle of Iwo Jima.
He worked for over 30 years as a Safe Deposit Box Manager at Citibank until he retired in 1987. William
was the loving husband of the late Dorothy Monks.
He was also preceded in death by his brother Richard, brother Robert; and sister Catherine.
William is survived by his sons, William (Gloria), Thomas (Yvette), William Joseph, and Francis (Kristi); daughters, Ellen (James), Joanne (Ray), and Francine (Norman); 21 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and several foster children he and his wife Dorothy cared for over many years.
A gifted writer and storyteller, William authored "Pearls," a book of poignant and humorous short stories. William loved writing, reading, and bicycling, but was most happy when practicing his faith.
He was a devout Catholic and a lector at Saint John the
Baptist Church in Fairview, NJ for many years.
A private Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gregory the Great Church, 4620 Nottingham Way,
Hamilton Square, NJ, on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at 10am.
A private cremation follows.
