Prudence Anita Darby White

August 21, 1954 — August 13, 2022

Ewing, NJ

Prudence was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, on August 21, 1954. She was also
affectionately known as Pat or Patty to close friends and relatives. Pat was raised
in Jamaica, New York, by her loving parents, the late Ransom and Prudence
Darby. Prudence attended the NYC Public School system and graduated in 1972
from the High School of Performing Arts in NYC.

At the tender age of five, Pat began her passion to dance. She attended the
infamous Bernice Johnson Cultural Arts Center, in Jamaica, NY. Early in the 1960s,
as a child, she appeared in the Sammy Davis “Wonderful World of Children”
television show. She was also chosen along with three other dancers from BJ’s to
appear as one of “the lovelies” on the Hullabaloo TV show starring comedian Jerry
Lewis.

After many years of hard work and dedication, Pat landed her first Broadway
Musical at the age of nineteen. She would often joke how she didn’t believe she
was good enough for Broadway’s bright lights and had no idea that her mentor,
Bernice Johnson was studying her every move. One day she was summoned to
the office and told where she had to be, at what date and time, and to get her
suitcase ready! This wonderful opportunity would open the door to a career filled
with many blessings to come. Pat traveled the world - Europe, Hawaii, Australia,
and California just to name a few. Her performing credits include 9 Broadway
shows: Mack & Mabel (1974), Guys & Dolls (1976), Rockabye Hamlet (1976),
Bubbling Brown Sugar (1977), The Wiz (1977), Broadway Musical (1978), Got to
Go Disco (1979), Comin’ Uptown (1979), and Promises,Promises. Prudence also
modeled and appeared in seven TV commercials.

A true fashionista of her time, she had the pleasure of meeting and working with
several up and coming artists. In her spare time, between shows, Prudence would
often visit and take classes at the Alvin Ailey Dance Company in NYC.

In 1973, while attending Queensborough College in Bayside, NY, Pat met her soon
to be husband, Ronald White. Their relationship would secure a strong bond that
survived break-ups and long-distance separations. The couple married on April 21,
1978 and had their first and only daughter, Shanae. The young couple purchased
a condo in Hillsborough, NJ where they resided for several years. In 1992, after
the passing of her mother, Pat relocated to Trenton, NJ, reuniting with family.

She met her partner of 20 years, the late Robert (Barry) Wiggs II. After years of
trying to conceive, Pat gave birth on February 14, 1993, to her only son, whom
she later called her “miracle baby”, Robert Rahman-Nadeem Wiggs III. Pat also
maintained gainful employment, working briefly at the Somerset County Superior
Court, The Census Bureau, Trenton State Prison and Sigma Management
Company.

With her bubbly and charismatic personality Pat will always be remembered as
the life of the party. She was often known to kick a leg high in the air just to
entertain her loved ones. She enjoyed music, nature, dining out and spending
quality time with close friends and family.

Prudence entered into eternity peacefully on August 13, 2022, after a few years of
battling health issues. She is predeceased by her Dear Sisters: Audrey Carter and
Kim Evans.

Pat leaves behind to cherish her memory: Daughter: Shanae White, Son: Rahman
Wiggs; Granddaughter: Siani Lambert and Great Granddaughter: Navani Gordon;
