Obituary

On September 1, 2022, Ruth Kloss, passed away peacefully, at the age of 96, surrounded by her loving family.

Ruth was predeceased by her adoring husband, Joe, to whom she was married for 68 years. She was the devoted mother of three, grandmother of six and great-grandmother of eleven, all of whom treasured her.

Ruth was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1925 and grew up in Union during The Great Depression. One of Ruth’s favorite sayings was ‘the harder you work the luckier you get.’ She worked hard and became a successful businesswoman while enjoying family life as well.

Ruth married Joe Kloss in 1943 and the couple had three children. When Joe returned home after WWII they purchased a parcel of land, researched home building at the library and built their very own house. Ruth loved the home and they parlayed that accomplishment into a successful business venture. Ruth and Joe made a great entrepreneurial team and together they started another business, a machine shop called JR Engineering. They also enjoyed success in the horse racing industry, including two stand-out champion horses: Totally Ruthless and Sweet Reflection.

In addition to creating a successful business and a loving family, Ruth and Joe enjoyed many travel adventures within the United States and abroad. Two of their favorite trips were visiting India and crossing the Atlantic Ocean on the Queen Elizabeth 2.

In their retirement years, Ruth and Joe loved the ‘Sunny South’ and enjoyed spending winters with their many friends at Mariner Sands golf community in Stuart, Florida. Ruth was a skilled golfer and even shot a hole-in-one in 1987 which she enjoyed bragging about. Grandma Ruth loved hosting her grandchildren on their many Spring Break visits to Florida over the years. Most recently, Ruth has enjoyed Florida winters on Sanibel Island and summers at The Jersey Shore with her family. Ruth loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ruth will be dearly missed. She loved her family, her church, playing bridge and golf and she always enjoyed a great party. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will continue to play cards together and bake her delicious Christmas butter cookies in her honor.

Ruth is survived by her children, Cheryl D'Altrui (Thomas), Lynda Bottitta (Joseph) and Joseph E. Kloss (Adriana), grandchildren Matthew D'Altrui, Jessica Davidson, Michelle Griffith, Gregory Bottitta, Lauren Jacobson and Ryan Kloss and great-grandchildren Jacob, Giana and Alex D’Altrui; Taylor and Aiden Davidson; Bradley, Emmalyn and Grayson Griffith; Michaela and Emma Jacobson and Zoe Bottitta. We will always love you better Gram.
