Steven Bayless of 300 Elm Road, #101, Princeton, New Jersey, passed away on March 20, 2021.


Steve was born August 16, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Francis and Ruth Long Bayless of Cleveland, Ohio. After
graduating in 1957 from the University School for Boys in Cleveland, Steve earned a BA in French from Denison
University of Granville, OH in 1961. After graduating from Denison, he served in the Air Force National Guard
until 1963 when he received an honorable discharge.


Steve then moved on to Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia where he received his Doctor of
Medicine in 1965, further serving his internship and surgical residency at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Bryn Mawr,
Pennsylvania. He then did his anatomic and clinical pathology residencies at Temple University Medical Center
and Pennsylvania Hospital between the years 1967 and 1971. He became Board Certified by the American
Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in 1972.

After his Board certification, Steve commenced his anatomic and clinical pathology practice at Patterson-
Coleman Laboratories, Tampa, Florida, Plantation General Hospital, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Elliot Hospital, Manchester, New Hampshire, and Harvard University’s Cambridge Hospital, Cambridge, Massachusetts between 1971 and 1977.


After concluding his medical practice in 1977, he taught Advanced Placement Biology at Hebron Academy,
Hebron, Maine between 1977 and 1978.


In the 1970s, Steve began the study and practice of Christian Science. After a life-changing event provided
evidence of God’s protection and care, Steve abandoned his practice of pathology to pursue his interest in
practicing Christian Science. He became a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston,
Massachusetts in 1978 and took class instruction in 1979.


Steve served the Mother Church in Boston between 1980 and 1994 in the Income Accounting section of the
Treasury, in the office of the Committees on Publication, and as a Christian Science Home Aide in 1995.
Between 1997 and 2001, he trained as a Christian Science Nurse at the Chestnut Hill Association in Boston, enter
the practice of Christian Science Nursing from 2001 until retiring in 2001.


Steve was married to Karen Walsh of Bridgeton, Maine in 1977; they divorced in 1992.


Steve is survived by a niece, Elizabeth Bayless Brown of Grayslake, Illinois, and a cousin, Zoe Long Kolar of
Greenwood, South Carolina.


Steven expresses gratitude for the scholarship provided by the Ohio Cuyahoga County Medical Society and for
the Temple University Avalon Scholarship he received during medical school.


There will be no funeral services. Steve’s remains will be interred with his parents’ at the Lakeview Cemetery in
Cleveland, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Steve’s name to The First Church of Christ,
Scientist, Boston, Massachusetts (giving.christianscience.com).
